A Late Evening Walk in Mattancherry

What this tour is about: This is a late evening walking exploration of Palace Road in the Mattanchery area of Fort Kochi.

This is a historic neighbourhood of the city, and its multi-cultural nature makes it a very interesting walk. Hindus, Christians, Jains and Muslims all live within a relatively small geographical area. There are different styles of residences, as well as various places of worship of different communities. In the late evening, the temples are lit with lamps and the sound of the temple bells and chanting makes for a lovely visit.

The area has a wide range of small shops selling fruits, vegetables, flowers, groceries and other daily needs. It is also home to many local eateries, snacks and sweet shops. You can stop at a local eatery for tea, or if interested, taste some typical local snacks.

During the walk, we will also visit a local family and learn how to draw the traditional 'kolam' floor design.

After the walk, you can ask the guide for suggestions for dinner; there are several interesting choices in Fort Kochi depending on your budget and cuisine preference. We can help you find local transport to get to the restaurant.
